Overview

PHP at Northview Wellness

Partial hospitalization program therapy space at Northview Wellness in Atlanta, GA
Therapy Space · Norcross, GA

A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the most structured level of outpatient addiction treatment. You attend a full clinical schedule during the day and return home each evening, without an overnight stay.

At Northview Wellness, PHP is led by a board-certified addiction medicine physician. Therapy, psychiatric care, and any medication support stay coordinated in one place. No outside referrals, no gaps between providers, no waiting on another office to call back.

PHP often follows detox, residential, or inpatient treatment as a step down into outpatient care. It also makes sense as a step up when a less intensive program has not been enough to maintain recovery.

Right Fit

Is Partial Hospitalization Right for You?

PHP works best for people who need daily clinical structure but have a safe, stable place to live. It sits one level above an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), with more days per week, more hours per day, and closer medical oversight. Many patients begin in PHP and step down to IOP as they stabilize.

  • You need more support than IOP or standard outpatient can provide
  • You are stepping down from detox, residential, or inpatient treatment
  • You have a stable, safe home to return to each evening
  • Your medical and withdrawal needs do not require 24-hour supervision
  • You are ready to commit to full-day treatment about five days a week

A physician assessment is always the first step. If a higher or lower level of care is the right call, we will tell you directly and help you get there.

Day to Day

What to Expect in Our PHP Program

PHP at Northview Wellness runs about five days a week, with treatment days that typically last six hours. Every plan is personalized, but the rhythm is consistent so you know what to expect each morning.

  • Morning check-in

A brief touchpoint with your care team to set the day and flag anything that needs attention.

  • Process group

A therapist-led space to work through what early recovery brings up, alongside peers who understand it.

  • Skills group

Practical, evidence-based sessions in CBT, DBT, and emotional regulation. Tools you can put to use the same day.

  • Individual therapy and psychiatric care

One-on-one time with your therapist or physician, rotating through the week, so your plan stays current as you progress.

  • Specialty sessions

Relapse prevention, trauma-informed care, family dynamics, and wellness practices, rotating by day.

  • Evening planning

A short close so the structure of the program carries into the hours you spend at home.

Family involvement is part of the work when it helps. We make room for the people in your life to be included in your recovery, with their consent and yours.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A few of the questions we hear most often about the Partial Hospitalization Program at Northview Wellness. Call us if yours is not here.

How long does a partial hospitalization program last?

PHP length depends on your needs and your progress. Many people spend a few weeks in PHP before stepping down to a less intensive level of care. Your physician and care team review your progress regularly and adjust the plan with you, rather than holding you to a fixed timeline.

What is the difference between PHP and IOP?

PHP is more intensive than IOP. A Partial Hospitalization Program typically runs about five days a week for several hours each day, with closer medical oversight. An Intensive Outpatient Program meets fewer days and hours per week. PHP suits people who need daily clinical structure; IOP suits those ready for more independence. Many patients step down from PHP to IOP as they stabilize.

Do I stay overnight in a PHP?

No. PHP is a daytime program. You attend structured treatment during the day and return home each evening. It offers a level of care close to inpatient treatment without the residential stay.

Does insurance cover a partial hospitalization program?

Most major insurance plans cover PHP. Northview Wellness works with the country's largest carriers, and our admissions team will verify your benefits before treatment begins so you know exactly what is covered.

What happens after PHP?

PHP is one stage of a longer recovery. As you stabilize, most patients step down into an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or Outpatient Program, often paired with Medication-Assisted Treatment and ongoing therapy. Your care team plans that transition with you so progress carries forward.
